DESCRIPTION:
BLA is currently designing the New York City “Signature Bridge” for the west side of Manhattan. During Preliminary Design, BLA studied alternatives, developed landscaping and architectural treatments, performed environmental studies including a NEPA checklist, cultural resources, hazardous waste/contaminated materials screening and asbestos assessment.

DESCRIPTION:
During Preliminary Design, BLA studied alternatives and developed landscaping and architectural treatments. BLA assisted NYSDOT in the preparation of a Scope Summary Memorandum, and progressed the selected alternative through Final Design. The review process included public information meetings and presentations to the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation, the NYC Landmarks Commission and the NYC Arts Commission.

Bronx River Parkway Bridges

DESCRIPTION:
This project includes the preparation of plans, specifications and construction cost estimates for the widening of the three bridges carrying the Bronx River Parkway over the Bronx River. These single-span bridges will be widened from 45 feet to 65 feet. Two of the bridges are pre-stressed beam superstructures with conventional concrete substructures; the third is a concrete arch bridge. BLA will also prepare bridge sections showing the construction staging required to maintain parkway traffic.

DESCRIPTION:
BLA was retained by New York State Department of Transportation to provide preliminary and final design services for the rehabilitation of the Park Avenue Viaduct, a 70-span, 1,402-meter structure; the Tillary Street entrance ramp, a four-span, 73-meter structure; and the Nassau Concord Viaduct, a six-span, 200-meter structure.
